How to Lawfully Use Forbes Content: Rules for Citation and Commercial Reprinting

Exploring the legal nuances of using Forbes Russia content: when publications can be used for free and when a paid agreement with the publisher is required.

Legal Status of Publications and Media Files

Any content published on the forbes.ru platform—from analytical articles, graphics, and databases to videos and software code—is considered intellectual property. Rights to it are protected under Russian and international law and managed by JSC "AS RUS MEDIA".

Commercial Use: Strictly by Agreement

The use of the publication's media content in commercial projects is permitted exclusively on a paid basis. To do so, an official written agreement must be concluded with the copyright holder.

  • How to submit a request: send an application via email to press-release@forbes.ru.
  • Terms: the agreement specifies the scope of borrowing, permitted usage formats, and remuneration amount.
  • Third-party rights: if the rights to a publication or graphic belong to external authors/partners, permission must be requested directly from them.

Free Citation: Rules for Non-Commercial and Educational Purposes

Pursuant to Articles 1273 and 1274 of the Civil Code of the Russian Federation, materials may be used without prior approval and free of charge, provided the purpose is strictly personal, scientific, cultural, or informational. However, strict attribution requirements must be observed:

  1. Attribution and date: any borrowing requires specifying the author's name, the original source, and the exact publication date.
  2. Hyperlink placement:
    • in the case of a full reprint, a clickable link to the original must be placed at the very beginning of the text;
    • in the case of partial quotation, an active link must be placed both at the beginning of the note and at its end (using anchors such as "read more", "further", or their equivalents).
  3. Working with secondary sources: if the text is found on a third-party resource, the link must still lead to the original Forbes publication.
  4. Prohibition of distortion: only minor abridgments are allowed, provided they do not alter the context or harm the reputation of the copyright holders and third parties.

Failure to comply with these rules constitutes an infringement of exclusive rights and entails liability in accordance with the legislation of the Russian Federation.
