XPENG's robotics and physical artificial intelligence subsidiary has closed an investment round exceeding $900 million, valuing the division at $6.3 billion. The transaction marks the largest private funding round in China's physical AI sector to date, setting a new benchmark for capital raised in the robotics industry.
Major Backing from Institutional and Tech Giants
The financing round was led by IDG Capital, with participation from Gaorong Ventures alongside strategic investments from tech conglomerates Alibaba and Tencent. XPENG will retain majority control over the robotics venture, continuing to consolidate the unit's operations into its overall financial reporting.

Technical Architecture of the IRON Platform
At the core of the division's roadmap is IRON, a humanoid robot engineered with a proprietary flexible lattice shell designed for safety and natural movement. The machine features 76 degrees of freedom throughout its structure, including 21 degrees of freedom in each hand to enable precise object handling.
On-board computing power is driven by three custom-developed Turing AI processors, delivering up to 2,250 TOPS of processing performance. This computing capacity allows XPENG's physical AI foundation models to operate directly on the robot, enabling low-latency inference and on-device processing without relying on cloud infrastructure.
By leveraging manufacturing expertise and supply chain efficiencies from its electric vehicle operations, XPENG aims to scale robot production using automotive-grade quality standards.
Commercialization Roadmap and Market Dynamics
XPENG plans to commence mass production of the IRON humanoid robot by late 2026. The initial phase will see units deployed internally across company facilities and retail locations, followed by commercial customer shipments across China and overseas markets beginning in 2027.
The sizable valuation comes amid broader market challenges for the parent company, whose core automotive shares have seen significant pressure due to aggressive price competition from domestic EV manufacturers and Tesla. Nevertheless, investors in the robotics round highlighted XPENG's full-stack approach—spanning edge processors, physical AI models, and integrated hardware—as a distinct advantage in shifting humanoid robotics from experimental prototypes to commercial-scale deployment.
