Managing AI Agents Right from the Screen Notch: Lumio 1.4 for macOS Overview

The free Lumio utility turns the MacBook screen notch into an interactive control hub for coding assistants and visualizes their work as a pixel-art office. Here's a look at what's new in the 1.4 update.

Taming the AI Zoo

Running multiple AI coding assistants in parallel quickly turns your desktop into chaos: one tool is waiting for approval in a background terminal, another has finished generating code, and a third is waiting for answers to clarifying questions. The free app Lumio solves this issue in an inventive way by embedding a unified monitoring dashboard right into the MacBook display notch.

Clicking the top notch expands an info island showing the current state of all active processes: who is inspecting the project, who is writing functions, and who is paused waiting for user input. You can approve or reject commands directly from the pop-up pane without switching between windows.

Support for 11 Tools and the 1.4 Update

To date, the utility works with an impressive lineup of AI assistants, including Cursor, GitHub Copilot, Codex, Gemini CLI, Claude Code, Antigravity, OpenCode, Kilo, and Pi. Integration takes just one click without manually editing configuration files.

In the fresh Lumio 1.4 release, the list has been expanded with two more popular solutions:

  • Qwen Code: gained full integration—statuses are displayed in the widget, and you can grant permissions and respond to model prompts directly from the island interface;
  • Cline (CLI and VS Code plugin): the app tracks task progress, displays the prompt when waiting for feedback, and alerts you upon completion.

A Pixel-Art Office on Your Desktop

In addition to a clean system interface, Lumio features a separate visual mode: a virtual office with pixel art graphics. Each running agent is turned into an employee at their own desk.

The characters' behavior reflects the actual progress of the session: they type away at their keyboards, walk over to the coffee machine, cross their arms during pauses, or look exhausted after extended refactoring sessions. As evening sets in, the agents turn on desk lamps, and at night, a glowing light unmistakably points to active processes.

Obsidian-Linked Notes and Analytics

The utility also offers companion productivity tools:

  • Instant Notes: triggered by pressing the right ⌥ key and synced with your Obsidian vault. Seamless background data loading prevents freezes when uploading files to iCloud.
  • Weekly Reports: the statistics tab tracks coding time, lists modified files, and compiles ready-to-use summaries for team standups.

Performance and Installation

Despite the animations and visual rendering, Lumio is optimized for continuous background use: in idle mode, it consumes around 2% CPU, and the office graphics are only rendered while the window is open.

The app is available for free on the project's official website. For quick installation or updates via the terminal, use the following command:

curl -fsSL https://lumiomac.com/install.sh | sh
